What Are My Upper Surgery Options?

Patients can choose either to focus on the upper eyelids or to address both upper and lower eyelids for treatment with blepharoplasty. While time is the primary cause of eyelid aging for both the upper and lower eyelids, they each pose different concerns and will require different approaches for treatment.

Upper Blepharoplasty

The goal of this procedure is to correct aesthetic and functional concerns caused by excess skin, fat, and muscle in the upper eyelid. Usually, one of the first signs of eyelid aging is thin, crepey skin that becomes droopy, causing you to look tired or sad. Through a tiny incision in the crease of the upper eyelid, Dr. Sina removes redundant skin and fat, then meticulously closes the incision and restores a rested and youthful appearance to the upper eyelids.

A quad eyelid lift treats both the upper and lower eyelids in the same procedure, providing a dramatic transformation to the eye area and an impactful boost to the face’s freshness.

How Is Upper Eyelid Surgery Performed?

Your Consultation

Your consultation with Dr. Sina is the essential first step in your upper blepharoplasty procedure. During this meeting, you’ll be able to discuss your goals and tell him what your specific concerns are. Bear in mind that Dr. Sina’s objective during this meeting is to help you determine the best treatment based on your anatomy and needs—he won’t spend time convincing anyone to undergo surgery. Be sure to be honest with Dr. Sina, as he will be honest with you.

This meeting is also important as Dr. Sina can provide you with specific details about what you can expect from the procedure steps and recovery, and give you an idea of what your results might realistically be. If you and Dr. Sina agree that upper blepharoplasty is the right procedure for you, he will create a surgical plan and provide you with a cost estimate.

The Upper Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Naturally, each patient will have a slightly different surgical plan to account for differences in anatomy and the patient’s aesthetic ideal. Generally, the blepharoplasty procedure is as follows. Upper blepharoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure using local anesthesia. In many cases, upper blepharoplasty is a quick procedure that takes around an hour to perform.

Upper blepharoplasty:

  • An incision is hidden within the natural eyelid crease
  • Dr. Sina removes excess skin and fat through the incision
  • The remaining tissues are tightened and lifted upwards
  • The treatment area is cauterized to avoid bleeding
  • Dr. Sina meticulously closes the incision

Quad blepharoplasty combines upper and lower eyelid surgery, often in that order. This lengthens operating time, but the procedure is not too dissimilar. Lower blepharoplasty incisions are usually placed inside the lower eyelid (transconjunctival) or sometimes on the skin below the lash line (transcutaneous). Transcutaneous incisions allow for excess skin removal and are hidden in the skin’s natural crease. Transconjunctival incisions leave no visible scars and often don’t require stitches.

Quad blepharoplasty:

  • An incision is hidden near the lash line (transcutaneous) or inside the lower eyelid’s mucosa (transconjunctival)
  • Dr. Sina removes excess skin and repositions fat
  • Incisions are closed if needed

What Is Eyelid Surgery Recovery Like?

Immediately after surgery, you’ll likely be sore, with slightly blurred vision. You’ll need a responsible driver to take you home from surgery and make sure you are comfortable once home. Dr. Sina will provide you with aftercare instructions—follow these to the best of your abilities to ensure proper healing and ideal results. He may recommend the following:

  • Use lubricating ointments or cold compresses to help with discomfort
  • Avoid heavy lifting, makeup, and direct sunlight
  • No contact lenses for a week
  • Remember to take all of your prescribed medications, including antibiotics if necessary

All in all, recovering from your blepharoplasty in Las Vegas is not a long process; most patients return to daily activities after a day or two and return to work within a week. Be sure to rest as much as possible, especially in the first few days, as this will help speed up recovery immensely. Bruising and swelling should resolve within a week.

When Will I See My Upper Eyelid Surgery Results?
